Taqiyyah according to the Ahlus Sunnah

In (Orthodox, Sunni) Islam taqiyyah has a completely different meaning it simply refers to the permissabilty of hiding your beliefs when your life is threatenend.

Ibn Jawzi said in “Zaidul maiser” (1/361): “Taqiyyah is something permitted but not obligatory. When Imam Ahmad was asked: “If there would be a sword upon your head, you would again tell the truth?”. Imam answered: “When the scholar would talk by taqiyyah, and layman by his ignorance, who then in this case would reveal the truth?”.

Compare this with quotes from shia scholars, that state taqiyyah is an obligation, and that taqiyyah is 9/10 of religion.
